Is Pure Physio Albany Holistic therapy?

What does holistic therapy mean?

Therapy is a word we all use a lot in a range of contexts.  It is a pretty straight forward concept: a treatment designed to help heal a disorder.  What is holistic or holism? Holistic therapy might be an expression you have seen and is often used to mean alternative medicine.
Holistic:
Dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone and not just a part.
Are the treatments described as Holistic therapy really any more concerned with the whole person than well conducted conventional medicine.

holistic therapy

Putting those two definitions together suggests that holistic therapy is a treatment which remedies a particular disorder but takes into consideration the whole of a person: their physical self, emotional being, spirituality, practical considerations in their life.

What has it become?

Holistic therapy is used to mean any form of unconventional medicine.  There is a joke by the comedian Tim Minchin “There is a name for Alternative medicines which have been proven to work…….. Medicine” and this is certainly true in the domain of physical medicine where Physio adopts clinical practice when science shows they are helpful to clients.

This means that for truly effective treatment more often than not Physio should be your first port of call.

Is Pure Physio Albany Holistic Therapy?

I don’t think there is any doubt Pure Physio offers expert therapy. We identify the source of pain and the underlying causes for that but are we holistic?  I often receive comments from clients about our caring approach and how we will go the extra mile to discuss how other factors influence peoples lives other than the problem they came to physio with.

Whether it is child care preventing exercise, a busy lifestyle preventing coming to terms with injury or guilt from being disabled impacting a patients well being we will do our best to address this.  Obviously our primary concern will remain your physical health but we know that a happy patient is more likely to recover than a stressed one.
